When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive—to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love—then make that day count!

Some of the most important things we all want in life are to grow, to be happy, to find love, to contribute to society/the world in some way, to earn money, and to somehow matter to those around us.

All these things are interconnected in one way or another, but to accomplish them you need to be consistent, you need to be doing something right on a daily basis, you need some kind of routine. And it all starts with the simple things, simple actions that can have a big impact on how you feel and how productive you are.

As you may have observed, when you sometimes start implementing a good habit into your life, you usually cause a chain reaction in the sense that you start doing additional things that are good for you. Lets say for example you start going to the gym, you will most likely start eating healthier, you will perhaps have a better sleeping schedule, you will drink more water, etc.

This is what this list is about. About minor tweaks to the way you do or don't do certain things, tweaks that will increase your energy and productivity levels and will inject positivism into your days. It is mostly about your morning routine and switching to a more productive mechanism for accomplishing your various daily tasks.

So let's start...

In the evening :

1 - Go to bed between 10 pm and midnight (avoid coffee, chocolate and red wine before putting yourself to sleep). It is said that an hour of sleep before midnight is worth two after, and this is due to the fact that the human growth hormone is only produced during the hours of sleep before midnight. This hormone stimulates growth, cell reproduction and regeneration.

In the morning :

2 - Do not check an app on your phone or your tablet right after you've opened your eyes. Shake off this habit of checking your email, the weather, your Facebook page or Twitter account, the news, etc., right after you've opened your eyes. The morning ritual should be about you taking care of your physical needs. And speaking of smartphones there are statistics saying that 66 percent of owners sleep with the device next to their bed. I know that one of the reasons is because of the alarm app that wakes you up in the morning. But as you know, one thing leads to another and as you put your hand on the phone it is kind of hard to resist the urgency to open your email or your favorite app, whatever that app may be, so another good thing would be to have a traditional alarm clock wake you up in the morning.

3 -  Get out of bed straight away. This is the best thing you can do right after your alarm goes off, if you want to feel fresh and alert. Do not hit the snooze button, do not think "Oh I wish I could sleep more", "I wish I didn't have to go to work today".  Alarm goes off, boom, you're up and out of bed!

4 - Breathe deeply. Take a couple of deep breaths through the nose. The oxygen that is transferred into your bloodstream energizes the body and and gets your engine started. Why the nose and not through the mouth? It is said that the nasal structure causes a spinning action that drives air deeper into the lungs.

5 - Drink a glass of water with lemon. Instead of simply drinking water which is great for kick starting your metabolism, add the juice of half a lemon to it and you will "turbocharge" your water with even more beneficial properties.

Apart from the fact that it will boost your immune system thanks to its high levels of vitamin C and potassium, lemon water is also great for balancing your pH level, stimulating digestion, flushing out toxins and keeping your urinary tract healthy.

6 - Exercise or go for a walk around the neighborhood. The benefits of exercising are well known, that is why you need to do it!!! It is all about opening up your body and engaging, about creating a good physical sensation that will serve as a foundation for a good state of mind as well. And just like Brendon Burchard suggests, that is why it's good to ask yourself during your exercise (a long run, a long walk, a quick workout, a long shower, or whatever the case may be) questions like: "What am I excited or enthusiastic about today?", "What am I grateful for today?" or "What am I committed to making happen today, no matter what?".

7 - Visualize. After you've built up your enthusiasm and optimism take a moment to visualize the day ahead of you, with the successes you will have and the things you will accomplish. Try to actually see yourself doing whatever it is that you are planning for.

8 - Eat a healthy breakfast. Since we are talking about setting the tone for the rest of the day, sitting down for breakfast with your kids or loved ones is another way of boosting positivity. Plus, a healthy meal in the mourning will give you energy and prepare the stage for a day full of smart decisions :)
