All successful people men and women are big dreamers. They imagine what their future could be, ideal in every respect, and then they work every day toward their distant vision, that goal or purpose.
You’ll have to agree that a successful person is usually someone original. Someone who employs a different mindset that sets him/her apart from the rest. What are some of the things that the rest of us could learn from these type of individuals in order for us to take our first steps towards success as well? Well lets looks at some of the traits that successful people have in common, and to be more precise, lets look at some of the things that successful people refuse to accept (things which the rest of us usually accept in one way or another).
1 - Some dreams are simply too big.
The highly successful ones are the ones who had a big dream one day, a dream which they were not afraid to purse with enthusiasm and determination. We all know the saying that "everything is possible” yet most of us have a certain limit were we say things like "I wish I could do that but it is impossible”. Even though the evidence is in front of us we still don’t dare to dream big. Many of the tings we take for granted these days are the results of people daring to turn the impossible into possible.Think about your smartphone for example, a device which is way more powerful than the first computer from 1946 which took up 1800 square feet and weighed 27 tons. What if someone would have said back in 1946 – "Hey guys, one day we will have a device capable of doing millions of operations per second (as opposed to a few thousands), and you will be able to carry it in your pocket”.
Some of you might say, "well yes, that is the result of evolution”, and I agree, but the idea remains the same, something that was not possible at a certain point, became possible, or how Nelson Mandela said put it - "It always seems impossible until it's done."
The idea is this: if you are a positive thinker with your feet on the ground but who dares to dream big, then beautiful things are bound to happen.
"Progress and innovation happen when you set unrealistic goals." -Simon Sinek
2 - Certain goals and dreams can wait.
To prioritize is one thing, to procrastinate is another.
To be successful in anything it is not enough to dream big, taking action is also required. Since our time on earth is limited then starting as soon as possible, staying focused and committed to what needs to be accomplished is very important.
Successful people understood at one point that to postpone your dreams means to diminish the chances of achieving them, so they took action. They stopped finding excuses and got brave enough to live the life they always wanted.
Think of it this way: if you have a big dream, something that will turn you into your wisest, most successful self, something that will bring you joy and a sense of accomplishment, then why delay it? Starting now will only increase your chances of getting there sooner.
"Successful people understand the value of time. Once they commit to doing something, they would never cancel." - Raymond Arroyo
3 – There is no choice.
Since all of us, right now, are mostly the result of choices and decisions that we made in the past, then is there something that could indicate that our future and our destiny is left to chance?
Whatever you do in life it all comes down to making choices, saying that there is no choice is also making a choice, one that is pretty dangerous and with high chances of leading you towards something you won’t like.
Finding yourself at a certain point where you are not satisfied with certain people or situations, and saying „there is no choice”, this is actually you making a choice.
People who are more in charge of their decisions are more in charge of their lives and ultimately in charge of their destiny.
“Excellence is never an accident. It is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, and intelligent execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives - choice, not chance, determines your destiny.”― Aristotle
4 - The ones doubting me are probably right.
People who are on their way to achieve their goals do not allow doubters to rent space in their mind or in their heart. Their decisions are not influenced by other people’s doubts because it is only them who know what is best. This is due to the fact that people who are successful or on their way of becoming successful have a deep connection with themselves, and their decisions usually come from intuition.
Even if they fail, they will not attribute it as a „victory” to the doubters, they will regard it as a necessity for progress.
As far as doubters, they are usually backed by negativity and will only get you tangled in their way of seeing things, steal energy and basically cause confusion.
“The doubters said, Man can not fly,
The doers said, Maybe, but we'll try,
And finally soared, In the morning glow,
While non-believers, Watched from below.”― Bruce Lee
5 – Obstacles
This one is closely related to the doubters mentioned at point 4, and is refers to the various types of people, events, situations and thoughts that appear during one’s journey towards success. If you let doubtful/judgeful people steal your good vibe, if you let certain negative experiences project fear on your plans, if your thoughts are focused on certain unpleasant moments and not on the big picture, then all of these can become major roadblocks that might cause your journey towards success to come to a stop.
The bottom line is this: The road to success is like a clear highway with no speed restrictions. If it would be like that, everyone would be successful, and this is not what reality is showing us. So it is only normal to experience a few bumps on the road, to have a flat tire once in a while, some sections with heavy traffic and so on. The idea is to keep going and consult your inner gps from time to time to make sure your are on the right track.
"The majority see the obstacles; the few seethe objectives; history records the successes of the latter, while oblivion is the reward of the former.” - Alfred A. Montapert
6 – I missed the opportunity.
You might be at a point where you stopped taking action because you think you had your chance and missed it. If that is the case then you are missing many another opportunities.
“Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.” - Maria Robinson
Just because you are not exactly where you wanted to be with your life right now, it should not mean that you are not on your way. Every day is a chance to start fresh, to build whatever you envisioned, get whatever you wanted. Just stay flexible, be optimistic, adapt to change, learn new things and keep pushing forward.
"I am an ordinary person who has been blessed with extraordinary opportunities and experiences. Today is one of those experiences.” - Sonia Sotomayor
7 – Being busy means being productive.
What is achieved in the end is more important than the time it takes to achieve it. Working a lot does not necessarily mean you are going to accomplish a lot. The ones who stay focused on what needs to be accomplished, and do not fall into the mindset of „busy work” are usually the ones who succeed in the long term.
The rest end up doing the same tasks over and over again on a long stream of non-productivity. The solution would be to put things on hold, review the end goals, sort them, prioritize them and start again.
"Slow down and remember this: Most things make no difference. Being busy is a form of mental laziness—lazy thinking and indiscriminate action.” - Timothy Ferriss
8 – Things need to be perfect.
To be successful does not equal to be perfect,in fact there is no such thing as perfection. One attribute of the successful is they actually embrace imperfections, and eventually surround themselves with people who are better in certain aspects than them. The truth is that no matter how much you get to know, or how much you do, there is always room for more and for better.
And don’t get this wrong, there is nothing bad in setting the bar high, but when the dream of perfection is actually standing in the way of you starting things or finishing tasks, then there is problem, because as you know the world rewards those who get things done.
"Have no fear of perfection- you'll never reach it." - Salvador Dali
9 – They need to work from inside their comfort zone (work needs to be done from inside the comfort zone).
The number one thing I persistently see holding smart people back is their own reluctance to accept an opportunity simply because they don’t think they’re ready. In other words, they feel uncomfortable and believe they require additional knowledge, skill, experience, etc. before they can aptly partake in the opportunity.
Sadly, this is the kind of thinking that stifles personal growth and success. The truth is nobody ever feels 100% ready when an opportunity arises. Because most great opportunities in life force us to grow emotionally and intellectually. They force us to stretch ourselves and our comfort zones, which means we won’t feel totally comfortable at first. And when we don’t feel comfortable,we don’t feel ready.
Significant moments of opportunity for personal growth and success will come and go throughout your lifetime. If you are looking to make positive changes and new breakthroughs in your life, you will need to embrace these moments of opportunity even though you will never feel 100% ready for them.
10 – I need to play safe.
Pain is a pesky part of being human but it’s vitally important. It strengthens the mind, heart and body. You can’t grow strong, brave, or successful in this world if you’ve only had good things happen to you within the safe boundaries of your own little comfort bubble. You need real life experiences, and nothing ever becomes real until you experience it first hand.No matter how long you train yourself to be strong, brave, or proficient at something, you never know if you are or not until something real happens to you. So get real, experience life and let it teach you what you need to know to conquer your wildest dreams.
