We have only this moment, sparkling like a star in our hand and melting like a snowflake…

Have you thought today of how many times you stress yourself about insignificant things and how less you think about yourself? Here’s a list of things you should start caring about that will make your life even more beautiful than it already is:

1. Your present

Look arround you. Do you feel happy? Do you want to make a change? Do you obsess over the past or the future? Well, then stop. Every day is another challenge, every other day is a gift. If we keep looking in the past at what we consider that were the happiest days of our lives, we will lose what is right in front of us. Lose the feeling of how it’s supposed to be. Because you will never be as young as you are today, and the moments that are going past by you, will never come back. So try and cherish them, enjoy the moment and be glad that you are where you are, trying to make your present a future past of which you would be proud to remember.

2. Personal space

Do you feel crowded? Do you feel like you do not belong in the room or the apartment that you’re living in? Every person needs his or her space. So do some remodeling.

It has always been known that cleaning up relieves stress and helps clear your mind, so maybe you need to try it, even though it is not something major it could still help.

Throw out everything you stopped using in over a year. Chances are that if you haven’t used something in such a long time, you will not need it in the near future. You will have more space to deposit the things you really need, or you will have more space in the environment you live in.

3. Yoga

Have you considered that the stress you’re living in should have a “pause” button? I have. And my button does wonders. Meditation has always been known as a solution for relieving stress and not only that, but it is also helps you focus on the right things in your life.

Put on some comfortable clothes, relaxing songs, sit on the floor, or on the bed, lay down, or sit upside down, or basically any position that makes you comfortable is perfect, and just try not to think of anything. It will not work at first. You will keep thinking about Facebook, e-mails, work issues or who knows what else.

But just do it for 5 minutes in the first day. After that, each day,  increase your personal time with 1 up to 5 minutes, depending on your patience. In time you can reach a full hour of meditation in which you relax and disconnect from the things that clutter your mind and perhaps cause stress. In time as you get better and better at it, you could regard meditation as the ultimate form of relaxation.

4. Optimism

“Happy mind, happy body”. It has been researched that there is a strange connection between thoughts and illness, and even though scientists cannot prove anything concrete, in practice, many doctors have seen how optimist patients just miraculously get better. We can just take a look at how many patients get cured of cancer these days even in severe cases. Oncologists say that the first treatment they recommend is a clear, happy mind for their patients before starting the chemo.

5. Cosmetics

Who says that a happy person does not take care of his or herself? Every time one takes up personal time for themselves, they should think about the benefits cosmetics give you. The feeling of being taken care of when going to a spa facility or massage treatment makes wonders on your both mental and physical health. Try to do it at least once a week, you’ll soon see some changes in your overall state of mind.

6. Forgiveness

As I said at the beginning of the article: Let go of the past, it never comes with news. You will not gain anything new in your life if you keep on holding grudges or hating others. Start to forgive, everything that happens in your life, happens for a reason, and that reason is for you to learn something, to gain something new. Be grateful and thankful for it, even for the people that hurt you, because by hurting you they pushed you into the arms of a brighter future.

7. Loyalty

What happened with people trusting friends and those close to them and keeping their loyalties? You want your life to get better? Keep your loyal friends around you, even though they are maybe only 2. It doesn’t matter how many they are, quality is more important, so show appreciation to the ones who you know will stick through thick and thin at your side, those who are willing to go even through hell in order to make you feel just a little bit happier.

8. The blessings in your life

Have you ever done a list with everything you are thankful for? If not, you should. What gave you the most satisfaction? Who were the people that made you the happiest? Write them down. Write them a thank you note. Go and hug them and tell them thank you. Focusing on the right things from your present will cause even better things to enter your life, and that also includes meeting great people when you least expect it.

9. Giving

Have you thought about how it would be to have nothing? Some people really don’t. So go outside, find a homeless shelter, an orphanage, and donate as many things as you can (see, cleaning is useful for both you and others, too). Seeing the happiness in a child’s eye that has nothing and expects nothing, and still receives gifts from a stranger, will make you tear, and at that point you will see that your life starts to have even more meaning than it already has.

So, have I convinced you? What will you start caring about today and make your future self be thankful for?
