Every once in a while, people need to be in the presence of things that are really far away.

Going on a trip is like the type of medicine that you have to take on a regular basis, just to keep you safe. Safe from a snap that many of us can have, if we don’t release the pressure of our personal and work problems. It’s one of the best therapies that you can buy for yourself.

So if you thought about going on a trip for quite some time, here are seven reasons why you should not postpone this action any longer:

1. To discover a new place

When you go on a trip in a place you have never seen before, you can prepare yourself for a beautiful adventure. If you go on a city break, it’s a good idea to do some research before, to determine which hotspots you want to visit in that particular city, take some guidance and then start to wander the streets in search of them. Let yourself become absorbed by the city’s scenery and go where your footsteps take you by intuition. Alternatively, if you choose to go on a mountain trip, use only the marked tourist trails! Stop every once in a while and admire the view. Take with you some packed victuals and eat in the middle of nature. You will be surprised how much tastier the food will seem be up there, even if you are eating out of a not so fancy metal can.

2. To meet new people

When you are on a trip, you have the occasion of meeting new people, either local residents or travelers like yourself. Usually, when traveling, you will discover that strangers are actually very nice people, and in many cases they can turn into great friends. There is something very special that happens between travelers. It’s like there is some silent agreement between tourists that are accommodated in the same location, or who visit the same places. It’s an inexplicable natural sympathy and solidarity, which will help you if you’ll need some kind of advice, or just a simple pleasant conversation. One of the most delightful things about being on a trip is that even if you are between strangers, you are never alone.

3. To disconnect

Every once in a while everybody needs a little escape. Escape from the daily activities, from your work, from your personal problems, and even if you love them dearly, sometimes you just need to get away from your family and friends. Going on a holiday alone can be a very liberating and self-revealing experience. You would be surprised to see that there are still things about yourself that you didn’t know about. Also you can try and be a completely different person if you want, since you will get the chance to be surrounded only by new acquaintances. You have to admit that this sounds at least a little exciting.

4. To keep in shape

Walking around all day is not an easy job. Not to mention if the trip presumes a hike in the mountains. Sometime, once you return home, you end up being surprised by the fact that even though you ate well, feasted with all the local delicacies, you actually lost a few pounds. The secret is to sleep slightly, then walk all day and have fun as much as you can.

5. Intercultural experience

If you have the opportunity to visit a new country, don’t ignore the rural areas or other less touristic locations. Those are the places where you can actually see the local residents with their natural habits and where you can get a true taste of their local culture, without any makeup put on for common tourists.

6. To practice the art of photography

While on a holiday, you have the best opportunity to try and improve your photography skills. You want to keep as many memories as possible, so you should always have a camera in handy. The beautiful thing about this activity is that afterwards, when you will see the pictures you have taken, you will discover details that you missed when you were actually there, the place you took the snapshot.

7. To meditate

There is something about these escapes from the daily routine. Being in a different decor, different ambiance, with different people, it makes you see things from a different perspective. Many of the travelers have the impression that in those moments they can see things clearly. Finally you are able to take a decision about an important aspect of your life that you were procrastinating for a long time. And being able to do that will be really liberating, like taking a huge weight off of your chest.
